Your data
What Actovia keeps, where, and the one rule that protects it.
Everything Actovia knows lives in one directory on your computer:
~/.actovia. Nothing is kept on a server of ours — the model providers
see only the requests made with your own keys.
| Path | What it holds |
|---|---|
database/ | Chats, memories, settings and keys (an embedded Postgres, PGlite) |
backups/ | Automatic database backups |
logs/ | Structured logs, one JSONL file a day (also in Settings → Logger) |
media/ | Generated images, one folder per chat |
workspace/ | Each chat's working folder for its file and shell tools |
groups/ | Philharmonic Groups' working folders |
skills/ | Installed Agent Skills (shared with the CLI) |
analytics/ | The snapshot Settings → Developer → Chat Audit queries |
lock.dat | The app-lock PIN, hashed and encrypted |
tls/ | The certificate paired phones pin |
Set ACTOVIA_HOME to run Actovia against another directory.
One process at a time
The database is single-process. Never run two copies of Actovia against the same directory at once — a second launch hands over to the running app instead of opening the database itself.
Keys at rest
API keys and other secrets are encrypted with a key held in the system
keychain (Actovia Safe Storage on macOS) and are shown everywhere else —
in Settings, to the iPhone app, in exports — only as a mask such as
•••• abcd. Copying ~/.actovia to another computer does not carry the
keys: there you paste them in again once.
