Deep Research

A research run that searches in rounds, follows leads, and writes a cited report.

Deep Research is for questions that need more than one search: it plans a set of searches, reads what comes back, notes what it learned and where to dig further, searches again from there, and finally writes a structured report with its sources.

Running one

In the composer, open + and switch on Deep research, then ask your question. A Deep Research card follows the run: Deep Researching..., the queries it generated, what it searched for and how many findings it took from each round, then Start writing final report.... You can carry on in other chats meanwhile; Actovia tells you when the report is ready.

The finished card says Research completed in 6m · 42 sources and holds the report, with an Activity tab for the run and a Sources tab for every page it used. Download PDF exports the report with numbered citations and a References list.

If anything stops the run — Stop, a lost connection, a failed search — the card ends as Research failed rather than waiting forever.

Settings

Settings → Deep Research:

  • Breadth — how many search queries to generate at each level (default 4).
  • Depth — how many levels to follow leads down (default 2).

Larger values find more and take longer. Deep Research uses Web Search, so it needs the Brave Search key.
